New resources

As Postgraduate Liaison Officer for the Study Group, I would like to welcome you to our corner of the website. There’s a short summary of some of our recent activities below, but most of all I would like to draw your attention to our some great resources that we’ve put together. Please do use these, add to them and comment on them (use the Contact Us page). Some of these resources have come from the SocRel community, a lot were funded by a grant from the Higher Education Academy’s Subject Centre for Philosophical & Religious Studies and all of them are geared towards helping you during your postgraduate research and on into the early years of your career in academia. We’ve used the name that the Subject Centre gave towards this section of their work: Aspiring Academics.

PG funding opportunities

The Study Group offers funding in the form of bursaries for postgraduates who are Socrel members to facilitate participation at the Socrel annual conference. We are currently in the process of developing some further bursary/funding schemes for PGs and ECRs so please watch this space for announcements on this later in the year.

PG mailing list

In addition to these resources, you might also like to find out how to join our PG mailing list, where you will be updated on matters relevant to postgraduates and will also receive regular bulletins on relevant jobs. If you decide to join, please send the mailing list an e-mail about yourself – what your research interests are and where you are studying.

Annual essay competition

Every year we have an essay competition for postgraduates, which last year was renamed to the Peter B. Clarke Memorial Prize (formerly the Taylor and Francis Postgraduate Essay Competition).

Postgraduate Involvement

The Study Group is tremendously supportive of the postgraduate community, and postgraduates are encouraged to participate in all our events (study days and our general conference). If you have any queries or would like to see something added to the site, please do not hesitate to contact me via our contact page.
